Bali

WELCOME TO Bali

The island that pretends to be relaxing… then casually changes your personality.

Bali is that friend who says, “Come for a quick getaway,” and then convinces you to stay for sunsets, smoothies, scooter rides, and a mild spiritual awakening you didn’t plan for. It’s equal parts chaos and calm — where temple bells compete with motorbikes, and your biggest daily dilemma is nasi goreng or smoothie bowl (again).

One minute you’re bargaining for fridge magnets in Kuta, the next you’re standing ankle-deep in rice fields in Ubud wondering if this is what inner peace feels like — or if you’re just dehydrated. Bali does that to you. It slows you down, feeds you well, wraps you in warm smiles… and then throws in a spontaneous rainstorm just to keep things interesting.

Whether you’re here with kids, a partner, friends, or your slightly overwhelmed mum-self looking for a reset, Bali meets you where you are — with open arms, affordable luxury, and a gentle reminder that joy doesn’t have to be complicated.

Welcome to Bali.
Bring your flip-flops, an open heart… and maybe an extra suitcase for all the things you definitely didn’t plan to buy.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Bali is paradise wrapped in chaos — equal parts zen yoga chants and scooters whizzing past with entire families balanced on one bike.

  • 📍 Best Time to Visit: April – October (dry season) for sunshine, December for festive chaos.
  • 💸 Currency: Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). $1 AUD ≈ 10,000–11,000 IDR (aka, you’ll feel like a millionaire).
  • 🔌 Plugs: Type C & F (two round pins). Voltage 230V — bring a universal adapter.
  • 💧 Tap Water: Don’t drink it. Bottled or filtered water only (and yes, even for brushing teeth).
  • ✈️ Visa on Arrival (VOA): 30-day visa available at the airport (IDR 500,000 / ~AUD $50 per person).
  • 👶 Family-Friendly Score: 8/10. Resorts = heaven. Traffic = patience test.
  • Safety: Bali is safe for families, but watch your bags in crowded spots. Keep an eye on kids at temples and beaches (waves can be stronger than they look).
  • Culture: Balinese people adore kids. Expect smiles, cheek pinches, and little ones treated like mini VIPs. Dress modestly when visiting temples (sarongs often provided).
  • Do’s & Don’ts: ✅ Do barter at markets — it’s part of the fun. ✅ Do try local food beyond Nasi Goreng (Bebek, Babi Guling, Satay). ❌ Don’t point with your feet or touch people’s heads (both considered disrespectful). ❌ Don’t drink tap water (trust me, Bali belly is not the souvenir you want).
  • Expectations: Bali is not just beaches — it’s rice terraces, waterfalls, temples, and chaos. The traffic is real. So is the magic.

Useful Tips & Hacks for Stress-Free Trip

  • Pack sarongs — they’ll save you at temples and work as picnic blankets.
  • Always carry swim gear (yes, even in the mountains — Bali loves a “surprise” pool).
  • Download Grab or Gojek — Bali traffic is… an experience.
  • Bring mosquito spray — Bali mozzies are tiny ninjas.
  • Plan travel times with buffer — 5km can take 10 minutes or 60.
  • Book popular experiences early (ATVs, swings, beach clubs sell out fast).

Stories From Our Little Big Life

Real moments, honest joy, and the beautiful chaos in between.

Bebek Teba Sari Ubud: Dinner on a Floating Gazebo

After a long, heat-filled day in Ubud, Bebek Teba Sari offered exactly what we needed — a floating gazebo, rice fields glowing at dusk, comforting food, and the rare luxury of not having to decide anything. This wasn’t about spectacle or trends. It was about space, softness, and letting the day settle.

Tegenungan Waterfall with Kids (And the Day Omma Dayclub Saved Us)

Tegenungan Waterfall is one of the most accessible waterfalls near Ubud — but with kids, access is only half the story. This is our honest experience visiting Tegenungan with children, navigating the heat, the steps, and why pairing it with Omma Dayclub turned a potentially exhausting stop into one of our most balanced Ubud days.

Ubud with Kids & Family: The Honest Guide to Waterfalls, Swings & Jungle Days
